Craisin Raisin Irish Soda Bread

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ½ cup craisins
  • ½ cup raisins, golden
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 1 ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted


Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Sift together and combine the baking soda, sugar, flour, salt, cream of tartar, craisins and golden raisins.

Step 2

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients then pour in the yogurt and buttermilk and mix quickly using a fork.

Step 3

Place the dough onto a floured countertop and knead it for one minute. Shape the dough into a circle, about 1 ½ inch thick and place on a greased baking sheet.

Step 4

Using a pairing knife make a cross on the top of the dough and bake for 40-45 minutes.

Step 5

Remove the bread from the oven and brush the top with butter while still warm. Cool on a wire rack then slice and serve once it reaches room temperature.
