  • 1 baguette
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • kosher salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 8 basil leaves, plus extra for garnish


Step 1

Turn on the oven broiler to high and adjust rack so it is 4 inches from heat.

Step 2

Slice baguette into 8 pieces on a diagonal about ½-inch thick.

Step 3

Peel garlic cloves and slice in half. Rub each slice of bread with garlic and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Step 4

Place bread on a baking sheet and broil until golden. Remove and set aside.

Step 5

Dice tomatoes, chop basil leaves. Combine in a bowl, seasoning with salt and pepper.

Step 6

Divide tomatoes evenly on top of bread and garnish with a basil leaf before serving.
